What should I do if I am involved in a motor vehicle accident while I am driving a Lab vehicle or my own vehicle for a work purpose?
You must fill out and submit a “Motor Vehicle Accident Report” form, located on the Lab’s A-Z website under “Vehicle Accident Report.” ( http://www.lbl.gov/lab-index/index.html). The OLC will review the report form and handle appropriate follow-up. If you have any questions about this process, contact Deb Troxell (510-486-7026; dmtroxell@lbl.gov).
What should I do if I am involved in a vehicle accident in a rental car while I am on work-related travel?
An employee is responsible for handling all matters related to a motor vehicle accident while on travel in a rental car. You should notify the car rental agency as soon as possible after the accident. Rental cars booked through the Lab’s Travel Service Department, using the corporate account number, generally include accident insurance coverage at no additional charge.
May I use my personally owned vehicle (POV) for official Laboratory business?
Yes. If you do so, however, you are responsible for any additional expenses you incur that are beyond the costs of using a government vehicle. In addition, if there is damage to your POV while you are using it for official Laboratory business, whether the Laboratory or your own private insurance may cover the damage will depend on the circumstances of the situation.
If my car is damaged while I am parked at the Laboratory, may I make a claim for the damage?
You may file a Vehicle Accident Report for damage to your parked vehicle; however, parking done on Laboratory property is done at your own risk, and, generally, the Laboratory will not reimburse you for any damages sustained while your car is parked.
